STUDENTS at Haslemere’s Woolmer Hill School got on their bikes for a 24-hour sporting challenge in aid of Sport Relief.

The school’s four houses each selected four teams, based on the applications submitted by pupils stating why they would like to take part in last Friday’s fundraiser.

The challenge was to keep eight exercise bikes going non-stop. Pupils form years seven, eight and nine pedalled a 12-hour shift from 8am to 8pm, cycling for 30 minutes each, to complete an impressive 1,500 miles collectively. Years 10 and 11 took over at 8pm and kept the bikes going through the night until 8am, making the total distance cycled 3,000 miles.

Each of the 96 pupils that took part was sponsored and the grand total raised to benefit Sport Relief should be around £4,500.

The school thanked everyone who took part, staff who stayed overnight to help run the event and The Edge Sports Centre and Petersfield company Fit Hire Ltd, which supplied the bikes.
