A WEEK of fun staged by a group of church-goers across the town concluded with a family event on Lion Green featuring a circus skills workshop, which attracted a 400-strong crowd last Friday.

It was the ninth year running Haslemere Churches Together put themselves at the heart of their community, by running ‘The Wave’, which kicked off last Sunday. On offer at Lion Green and other venues in the town were a wide range of events, including a folk night, a Bake Off competition, plus a quiz and even a barn dance.

Wave teams kept more than 100 children entertained in the School of Rock holiday club at Shottermill Junior School while St Stephen’s youth leader Eliot Ambrose led football and basketball games at High Lane green.

During the mornings crews carried out essential tasks to help 15 residents in need. They also did some painting at Woolmer Hill School, and maintenance work at Haslewey community centre.

At Tots @The Wave, more than 70 pre-schoolers and their carers enjoyed story-telling sessions with songs, sensory activities and craft, which complemented well-known bible stories.

Jack Robson, 3 Counties Church Youth and Community worker, who helped organise the event, said: “The Wave week was a fantastic time to draw together as a community and see a very tangible expression of love pour out across the town.

“I feel extremely blessed myself to have been able to serve the community in this way and to see God’s love as a reality around us”.
