SPORTING dads kicked up a storm at the annual football fundraiser in aid of Grayshott Primary School.
Their efforts netted the school an impressive £1,600 to improve its educational facilities and the tournament was won by Silver Stormtroopers representing year five.
Places for People and Hindhead BMW Mini dealership Baron’s sponsored the event. CM Sports provided the referees and parents volunteered to run the bar, barbecue and children’s play area throughout the evening.
In the first semi-final between the Silver Stormtroopers and the Red Dragons, a solitary goal by sharp-shooting captain Luke Corbett took Silver to victory. The second semi between Gold Fish and Purple Power was ultimately decided by a masterful header from captain Stuart Hopwood, giving the Gold Fish a 1-0 victory.
In the final, Silver got off to a flying start with another goal from Captain Corbett but, despite the Gold Fish, representing year six’s Gold class, piling on the pressure in the second half, the Silver Stormtroopers ran out 1-0 winners.
Headteacher Sharon Pritchard presented the trophy and medals to the winners’ who sprayed the crowd and each other with bubbly.
Gold Fish received the runners-up plate and ‘man of the match’ was awarded to Darren Foulds, who was the lucky winner of a month’s family membership at Haslemere Leisure Centre.
