A college charity is encouraging its supporters to go out and buy some lottery tickets to enable it to carry on helping students.

The Alton College Foundation, a charity which has been supporting HSDC Alton – Alton College – and its students for the past 23 years, is seeking a funding boost through people playing the East Hampshire Community Lottery.

Over the years the charity has supported the college by buying it a minibus and numerous laptops, funding a quiet garden for the students and providing bursaries and grants of more than £125,000 since 2010.

Each year the charity gives numerous scholarships for excellence to deserving students, and hopes these awards will set them on their way to fulfilling and successful careers.

Trevor Heley – the longest serving trustee of the charity, who is photographed with scholar Hazel McRiley – said: “We always do our best to support students coming through the college and are delighted to be awarding our 400th scholarship next year.

“With the costs of running the charity increasing each year however, we are looking to our supporters to help fund the continued running of the charity.”

Tickets can be bought at https://www.easthantslottery.co.uk/support/the-alton-college-foundation, and 50p from all £1 ticket sales will go directly to the charity and help it to continue supporting local students.
