deputy mayor David Round led a flag-raising ceremony and laid a wreath at Haslmere’s War Memorial, on Monday – ahead of Saturday’s Armed Forces Day.
Mr Round said: “It is important we remember and appreciate all those who serve and have served in the armed forces.”
Flags were raised across the UK at the same time to mark Armed Forces Week, in support of men and women of the armed forces community, including serving personnel, veterans, cadets and their families.
A ceremony outside Waverley Borough Council offices in Godalming was attended by Councillor Simon Inchbald, the Mayor of Waverley, the Mayoress Rosie Inchbald, Robert Napier, the High Sheriff of Surrey, along with councillors and staff.
The Mayor’s chaplain, Chiddingfold rector Rev Sarah Brough led the congregation through a short service before the flag was raised by Cpl Richard Frizzell, representing the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment.
