GRAYSWOOD Primary School teacher Richard Stanton welcomed the Lord Lieutenant of Surrey, Michael More-Molyneux, to his home for the launch of his Remembrance tribute in support of the Royal British Legion (RBL).

Richard was joined for the launch by Richard Graham, who is a member of the Invicta Military-Vehicle Preservation Society (IMPS), and whose 1943 US Army Jeep had just taken part in a Poppy Appeal event, helping IMPS raise more than £3,000 for RBL.

The Lord Lieutenant said: "Quite apart from raising money, one of the most important aspects of your display is reminding people and making them aware."

The dramatic centrepiece of Richard’s tribute is a cascade of 6,000 poppies from the first-floor window to the front lawn, where the silhouette of a First World War ’Tommy’ looks at the grave and memorial crosses for his fallen comrades. After dark, the tableau features poppy-red illuminations, with a digital projector used for the first time to show poppy petals floating to earth.

As a teacher, Richard Stanton said Remembrance is as much about making people aware, especially children and young people.

He added: "It is vital that younger generations continue to remember and reflect on the sacrifices made by so many over the years.

"I hope that my display and the contributions of those involved go some way to raising this awareness and promoting the wonderful support offered by the British Legion."
