DENMARK footballer Christian Eriksen’s cardiac arrest on the pitch during Euro 2020 inspired Alton Tennis Club to install a defibrillator.

It was unveiled on Friday by Alton town councillors Susie Burns and Ginny Boxall, who provided grant support to turn safeguarding officer Andy Grice’s idea into reality.

The club, which has members aged from five to 85, is busy training them to use the machine.

Mr Grice said: “In the case of heart attacks, survival rates increase by 75 per cent if a defibrillator is used in the first few minutes while waiting for the arrival of paramedics.”
