HASLEMERE’s very own ‘Spiderman’ – William Bremner – is on the run again and gearing up for next month’s Isle of Wight Ultra Challenge in aid of Help for Heroes.

William, who has cerebral palsy, has raised thousands of pounds for charities through his sponsored runs and is well-known in the town for his trademark silly hats, including dressing up as Spiderman, while taking part.

His two-day 65-mile run around the Isle of Wight starts at 9am on May 5 and at 6am the following day, taking in The Needles, Cowes, Osborne House and Ventnor.

William said: “I am doing this for Help for Heroes because these brave people gave their lives for us.”

Meanwhile, Hindhead- born former soldier Roger Sherburn-Hall is getting into shape to take part in the Royal British Legion’s Western Front Trek in September to remember the sacrifices of all those who fought in WWI.

Mr Sherburn-Hall, who is a member of Headley RBL, will join hundreds of others to walk along the old battlefront in France and Belgium, from September 18-23, in the year that marks the centenary of the end of The Great War.

He said: “It’s a big effort for me at 71.”
