A FEMALE passenger suffered serious head injuries when the van in which she was travelling left the road and hit a tree on the A283, near Chiddingfold Golf Club, on Saturday afternoon.

The woman aged in her 40s was travelling with an 18-month child, and the van was being driven by a man in his 40s, when the incident occurred at around 5.10pm.

She was treated by paramedics and doctors at the scene and taken by air ambulance to St George’s Hospital, Tooting, in South London.

The driver was treated for non-life threatening chest injuries and the child for minor bruising.

They were taken to St George’s by road ambulance.

A South East Coast Ambulance (SECAmb) spokesman said: “A van with three people on board had crashed into a tree partially trapping the occupants.

“SECAmb dispatched three ambulances and three single responder vehicles to treat the casualties. The air ambulance also attended.

Road closures were put in place in the immediate area while emergency crews attended the scene and debris was cleared. Surrey Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or the events surrounding it to contact them on 101.
