THE father and mother of a pupil at St Edmund’s prep school in Hindhead have been diagnosed with coronavirus.
Following a contact assessment by Public Health England (PHE), the family have gone into self-isolation – together with several other parents – and the school has been given the all clear to stay open.
The pupil is well and no other pupil or staff member has tested positive.
Hygiene at the school remains a priority and a rolling programme of deep cleaning is in place.
PHE is working closely with the school and St Edmund’s is also supported with advice from current parent Professor Trudie Lang, who is professor of global health at Oxford University and is now advising the UK government and chief medical officer.
Head Adam Walliker said: “Whilst there is uncertainty about coronavirus, the evidence is that it appears to pose a very low risk to children.
“We have a super team in our school surgery and our excellent teaching and pastoral staff have been working hard to ensure that it is business as usual at school for the children.”
