ENFORCEMENT officers contracted from East Hampshire District Council (EHDC) have now started to help keep Waverley’s towns and villages clear of litter.
The team will be making spot-checks around areas prone to littering and issue fixed penalty notices with fines of £100 discounted to £75 for early payment. They will be issued to anyone caught dropping litter, including cigarette butts and chewing gum and not clearing up after their dog.
The partnership with EHDC will provide the council with extra resources, for a trial period, to put more officers on the ground to catch offenders.
The move will not cost Waverley any money as East Hampshire will keep a proportion of the fines to cover its costs.
Officers will enforce breaches on all public highway and council-owned land.To report offences go to: www.waverley.gov.uk/report-it or call (01483) 523524.
