A BRIGHT and airy new library is a big attraction at Barrow Hills School in Witley.

The original library in ‘Great Roke’ – the main school building – ‘Great Roke’ – has been revamped, thanks to a generous donation of £10,000 from the Barrow Hills community committee.

A smaller Pre-Prep library was also refurbished, so all pupils can discover the joy of reading.

Former school parent Lou Emmett, who has worked in the learning support and extension department for 12 years, has been appointed librarian.

Headteacher Philip Oldroyd said: “We want to do everything in our power to ensure our children grow up recognising the significant value that books can bring to their lives – and to their overall well-being.”

Sister school King Edward’s Witley is also celebrating some key additions to its staff.

David Corran is new deputy head. He joins from Millfield School, Somerset, where he was head of the French department. Previously, he was deputy head pastoral at Charterhouse.

Mr Corran will also be designated safeguarding lead.

A new head of learning support has also been appointed. Zoe Marsden brings a wealth of experience, having previously headed up the learning support department at the Royal Grammar School in Guildford.
