ST Patrick’s Day was celebrated at Haslewey Community Centre with an evening of singing, dancing and “craic” which raised more than £1,600 for good causes.

The celebration ahead of the patron saint’s day was the work of the One World Group from the Catholic parish of Haslemere, Hindhead and Chiddingfold and the Orchard Club, which supports older people.

Money was raised for the Orchard Club, locally and further abroad for Ashagram – “village of hope” – for deprived and less fortunate children in Darjeeling, India as well as Street Child Africa which provides essential services to children living on the streets.

One World Group, chairman John Maguire said: “Everyone worked so hard, it was such a pleasure and once again we saw the tremendous generosity of our local community. The money raised will have a significant impact on the work of these projects.”
