WITNESSES are being sought following a serious assault in the High Street area of Godalming, in the early hours of Sunday.

A 23-year-old man has been left with a suspected broken jaw as a result of the attack.

He was leaving town after a night out, just before 1am, when he was set upon by three men.

They repeatedly punched and kicked him, leaving him with a split lip and injuries to his jaw and left side of his face.

Police officers found the victim, who reported the assault, lying on the ground in Flambard Way near the entrance to the Crown Court car park.

He was taken to the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford for treatment.

Anyone with information should contact police as soon as possible. Detective Constable Dave Pellatt, who is investigating the incident, said: "This was a nasty attack, which has left the victim with serious injuries.

"We would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the assault, or anyone with any information about who might be responsible."
