A LANDMARK heritage project to celebrate the A3 Hindhead Tunnel and the newly-restored landscape is nearing completion.

The Heritage Lottery Fund provided a £33,500 grant last July, to enable the "A3D - A Creative Legacy" partnership to celebrate both the impressive engineering process and Hindhead's changing landscape.

Pupils from Amesbury and Beacon Hill, Camelsdale, Liphook and Grayshott primary schools – together with students from Woolmer Hill School – are working with representatives from Balfour Beatty, the National Trust and Haslemere Museum on the project.

Each school worked with sculptor Ruth Wheeler to help create a sculpture for the National Trust, and selected pupils worked with sculptors Diarmuid Byron O'Connor and Jon Edgar to produce the new community sculpture.

Both sculptures, one in stone and one in wood, will go on permanent display at the Devil's Punch Bowl.
