ALTON Hockey Club rounded off their triumphant season with a record attendance for their awards dinner when 115 members from all senior teams squeezed into the Alton House Hotel.
Club chairman Dave Harvey reviewed the 2016/17 season and it was a remarkable success story for the men’s section. All four teams gained promotion, three of them going up as champions and the 2nd XI finishing unbeaten.
All the captains gave a report and presented their awards for Most Improved Player, Players’ Player and Captain’s Player. The official section of the evening culminated in the presentation of the club awards, voted for by the committee.
Winners were: Golden stick – James Goulding-Stewart (28 goals); John Young Goalkeeper of the Season – Bex Chester; Dennis Martin Young Player – Tom Green; Team of the Season – Men’s 2nd XI; Fred Patel Contribution to the Club – Ian Southgate; Robin Glanfield Spirit of Hockey Award – Paul and Bex Chester; Personality Award – Adrian Trim.
