PORTSMOUTH & SOUTHSEA 2, ALTON LADIES 3

ALTON Ladies kept their winning streak going in Hampshire Division Two with a hard-earned three points at Portsmouth & Southsea.

Alton expected a tough fight on the coast and the hosts did not disappoint. Their skilful midfield won an early short corner which was cleanly dispatched for the lead.

The Alton response was swift and Maya Morrison made an impressive run from midfield into the D, round the defence and scored from a tight angle for the equaliser.

It remained 1-1 after an evenly-balanced first half, but Alton picked up the pace on the restart and some lovely link-up play had P&S struggling to cope.

A passing move down the right sent Morrison into the circle and again her final shot found the target.

Buoyed by taking the lead, Alton pressed high up the pitch and Gayle Moir pounced in a goalmouth melee to score the third goal.

Portsmouth & Southsea then had some pressure of their own and forced some fine saves from Bex Chester.

Their determination finally paid off with a goal and the last 10 minutes were frantic as both sides looked to attack.

Portsmouth won a string of short corners, but keeper Chester and the defensive line stood strong and Alton came away with a third successive 3-2 win. This week, Alton are back at Amery Hill to face close rivals Hamble.
