SOUTHAMPTON UNIVERSITY II 3, ALTON 2
IT was a tough day on the road for Alton as they gave up a 2-0 lead to eventually lose the Hampshire 2 mid-table tussle with Southampton University.
Alton had the early advantage as the game got underway without Southampton’s keeper on the field.
The visitors soon took the lead when a good move set Sam Juncker free and he crossed into the circle for Harry Curtis to find the net.
The students began to mount attacks of their own, but Alton defended well and then countered with a flowing team move, Alec Hudson finishing it off to give his side a two-goal cushion at the break.
But Alton will want to forget the second half in a hurry. Southampton picked up the pace and piled on the pressure, and although the Alton midfield worked hard, their forwards saw very little of the ball.
Alton were feeling the heat and soon the inevitable happened as, in the space of ten minutes, the students scored from two short corners to draw level.
And it went from bad to worse for the visitors. With five minutes to go, Southampton’s comeback was complete as they snatched the winner from yet another short corner.
Alton down, but not out, and they will be determined to make amends this Saturday when they host Southampton II.
