ALTON 12, ANDOVER II 0 (Hants Women’s League Div 2)

AFTER last week’s disappointing performance, Alton Ladies raised their game dramatically and scored a round dozen goals against bottom side Andover 2nd XI.

Alton flew out of the blocks and won a short corner inside two minutes. Louise Yeadon came out of defence for the set play, striking the ball cleanly for the first goal.

Within minutes, Alton had scored again, this time from open play. They continued to dominate the first half, with Martha Folkes, Caroline Orange and Yeadon defending from the halfway line and pressing Andover back.

A strong all-round display earned the hosts an emphatic 7-0 lead at half-time.

To their credit, Andover came out fighting in the second half, showing desire and determination, but the experienced Alton side continued to have most of the possession and attacking play, scoring five more times.

Jenny?Rust finished with a personal tally of five goals and Alton’s other scorers were Maya Morrison (2), Ariana Hawkins (2), Gayle Moir, Kat Gilbert and Louise Yeadon.

Alton’s next league fixture is on October 28 when they travel to undefeated leaders Fareham II.
