Bordon fighter Darren Hendry was pleased with his night’s work after returning to the ring in style with a comfortable victory against Calveen Abdul.

The bareknuckle fighter – who had been out of the ring since beating Corey Harrison at Crystal Palace – was too strong for Abdul in their gloved heavyweight title eliminator at The Empire Hall in Aldershot.

The 33-year-old was using the fight as preparation for his upcoming Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship bout against Luke Atkins at Planet Ice, Elland Road, Leeds on Saturday, November 18.

Although it wasn’t a vintage fight against Abdul, Hendry was pleased to be back in the ring and secure another win.

“It was a really scrappy fight,” said Hendry.

“The guy didn’t come to box – he just wanted to slug and street fight.

“It was a very ugly fight but it was good to get some rounds under me.

“It was a shame the guy was very unsportsmanlike and didn’t shake my hand after the fight. He was a sore loser.

“It was good to get the rust off, and as much as I would have liked a more decent fight it was good to get the rounds under my belt.”

Hendry also thanked his supporters for getting behind him on his return to the ring.

“The support was incredible and I’m always very grateful for the support,” he said.

“Thanks also to my sponsors.”

Hendry is now gearing up for his bareknuckle title shot against Atkins in Leeds, and is looking forward to the challenge.

“Now I’m on to the big one,” said Hendry.

“There are no days off – I’m straight back into camp five to six days a week, twice a day.

“I am feeling good. I know it will be a tough fight but I feel bareknuckle fighting is more my forte rather than gloved boxing.”
