BOURNE Club’s new winter indoor tennis bubble was officially opened on Saturday at the Family Open Day.

The red ribbon was cut by the winners of the annual Williams Family Cup, Nick and Tom Webb.

The annual Williams Tournament is run every year for Bourne juniors aged under 11, each playing with an adult relative.

The indoor sponge-ball event proved great fun and the cup was won by junior Tom and dad Nick. Runners-up were Oliver Southwell and dad John.

The Williams Cup was set up in memory of a Bourne member, Ross Williams, who was a keen supporter of the club and raised money for the bubble at a 24-hour tennis marathon at the National Tennis Centre.

The Bourne Bubble is an airhall inflated over two newly resurfaced courts and will allow members to play tennis all winter, what ever the weather.

Amanda Webster, Bourne Club’s tennis chair, said: “We are delighted to have officially opened the Bourne Bubble. It has come to fruition after years of planning and will be inflated every winter, from October to March, to allow play on a proper tennis surface, sheltered from wind and rain.

“Bourne Club is a family club and it is fitting that the winners of the annual Williams Family Cup were celebrities for a day and were given the honour of cutting the ribbon.

“Many congratulations to Tom and Nick Webb and to all the juniors and their relatives who competed.”
