IT was a very successful week for Alton Bowling Club, with wins in all the league matches.

Alton beat Four Marks 4-1 in the last Three Counties match of the season, leaving Alton second in Division Two and thus guaranteeing promotion to the top flight.

Alton A defeated Hook Hares 4-1 to remain top of the Whitchurch League Division Two. In Division Four, Alton B had a close-fought match against Friary. Both sides scored 45 points, but Alton were overall 3-2 winners.

In the Basingstoke Rinks League, Alton men won 3-2 at home against Basingstoke Town.

On Sunday, Oakley BC hosted a friendly match between Bowls Hampshire and the Basingstoke & District Bowling Association.

Men’s rinks teams from Alton, Oakley, Thornycroft, Whitchurch and Alton Social recorded an overall victory for Basingstoke.

The Alton BC four of Paul Schofield, John Blair, John Driver and Bernard Abate won on their rink. Alton clubman James King, vice-president of the Basingstoke BA this year, played for the Association on the president’s rink.
