IT was all doom and gloom for Chawton Park Indoor Bowling Club as they bowed out of three national competitions.
The ladies suffered a disappointing two-shot reversal against Riverside IBC in the Yetton Trophy. A terrible start left Chawton 22 shots in arrears after five ends.
The deficit was still 20 shots at 10 ends, but then came the fightback and Chawton reduced the deficit to just three shots after 18 ends. The result was in the balance, but Riverside clung on to win 81-79.
In the Denny Cup – the men’s equivalent event – Chawton were up against a strong Isle of Wight side. The mainlanders were in touch through 10 ends, but strong individual play helped the islanders into a 16-shot lead and Chawton conceded at 53-80.
Chawton Park travelled to Worthing Pavilion in the Mixed Top Club competition. The tale of woe continued and after the early loss of the two two-wood singles and with the pairs, triples and fours all falling behind and the overall shots difference growing, Chawton conceded. But the 16-0 points scoreline that was not a true reflection of the match.
On a brighter note, Adam White recorded a 21-11 win in his individual match at Atherley, but no success for Mark Fyfield and Dave Fitchett.
Lesley and Gary Johnson cruised through their national mixed pairs match at Riverside IBC, winning by 30 shots.
• Long-standing Chawton Park member Bill Young achieved a landmark century of matches for Hampshire Patrons at Loddon Vale last week and was presented with a framed certificate by county president Derek Fulker.
