ALTON Cricket Club Colts have started indoor training with Hampshire coach Simon Hammond and welcome new players at the taster sessions.

Colts co-ordinator Tozzy Bridger said: “The club is very pleased to have Simon on board with colts coaching as he is a respected, highly-qualified coach from Hampshire Cricket Board, with many years’ experience.

“He will offer the colts technical development as well as bags of encouragement for all ages and abilities and masses of support for the youngsters in their quest to become better cricketers.”

Alton Cricket Club, based at Jubilee Fields, has 11 colts teams. Indoor coaching sessions are held at Alton College during the winter. The excellent facilities include two nets and there is ample room for warm-ups, games and batting and bowling drills.

Starting after Easter, most matches are played at Jubilee Fields, and also at grounds in nearby Bentworth and Chawton.

Alton men’s 1st XI compete in the Southern Premier League’s top division – the highest standard of club cricket in the south. Last season, Alton reached the final of the SPL T20 Cup at The Ageas Bowl.
