Alton’s women’s team slipped to a 43-run defeat against Aldershot on Sunday.

Aldershot won the toss and elected to bat. Ella Chandler and Taylor Newcombe made good progress, but Millie Heffernan made the breakthrough as Newcombe fell for 21. Freddie Wright joined Chandler and the pair put Aldershot in a strong position before Sara Heffernan bowled Wright for 44. Chandler was eventually removed by Gemma Porter for 126. Porter (four for 26) picked up three more wickets as Aldershot finished on 220 for six.

Alton set about their chase positively. Connie Cant hit three early boundaries but a good catch by Teri Harfield-Brown saw the Alton opener fall for 13. Sara Heffernan joined Nic Gadsby, but the later fell for eight. Porter and Heffernan brought Alton back into the game but Heffernan fell for 18 and Porter was caught for 54. Mel Vaggers made 41 as Alton were bowled out for 177.

Alton’s men’s second team won by 133 runs at Tichborne Park in Division One of the Hampshire Cricket League on Saturday.

Alton lost Ryan Hale early on when he edged behind for three. Michael Heffernan joined Ethan van der Linde and a patient century partnership put the visitors in a good position. Heffernan departed for 55 and Van der Linde (49) fell victim to a ball that kept low. Tom Andrews (19) and Joey Paul (21) made valuable contributions as Alton were bowled out for 196.

Dan Sumner took the first wicket for Alton, before Wilf Bridger (four for 29) took three quick wickets to leave Tichborne reeling at 41 for four. Sumner (six for nine) ripped through the lower order as Tichborne were bundled out for 63.

Alton’s men’s third team beat Ashford Hill by seven wickets.

Matt Crane (two for 16), Derek Footit (one for 14), Lee Partner (three for eight), Luke Crook (two for 34) and Lucas Pearce (one for one) impressed with the ball as Alton bowled the visitors out for 108.

Alton were reduced to 26 for three, but Crane (37 not out) and Andy Pearce (27 not out) eased the Brewers home.
