I’ANSON club Blackheath CC will be hosting a training evening for scorers on Tuesday, March 13 (7.30pm).

The course (cost £5) will be led by Surrey Association of Cricket officials.

There is a desperate shortage of scorers in the league, with only a handful of clubs providing a specialist scorer. Clubs are asked to publicise the course amongst members. More information is available from Martyn Holloway-Nevill martyn. [email protected]

I’Anson club members are also urged to attend the New Laws presentation evening at Farnham Maltings (Barley Room) on Wednesday, April 4 (7 for 7.30pm).

Bookings are being taken through the ECB website and there is a charge of £5 to cover expenses.

Link to the booking form is https://booking.ecb.co. uk/c/express/d7259d2a-95b4-472e-a88a-d20f88559427

Space is limited at the Maltings and people should book as soon as possible.

• Headley Cricket Club, participating in the Tesco ‘Bags of Help’ initiative, have come second in the voting and have been awarded £2,000 towards coaching expenses for 2018.

• Fixtures have been released for the I’Anson’s Stevens and Pope Cup competitions which have switched to a round-robin format, clubs competing in four regional groups before the semi-finals and final.

The new rules have yet to be circulated in full, but in brief: Points: 2 for a win/conceded game; 1 for a tie (if wickets are equal); 1 for a rained-off game.

If teams have equal points at end of group stage, positions will be decided first by ‘head to head’ meetings and then by run-rate.

In semi-finals/final, if scores are tied then a ‘super over’ will be played.

The group winners will compete in the Stevens Cup semi-finals and the runners-up will contest the Pope Cup semi-finals, matches to be played on July 3.

The finals will be held at Blackheath on Sunday, July 15.
