HASLEMERE managed a respectable seven wins to finish sixth in the Surrey Championship Division Four, but could have improved upon that with a little more consistency.
Their erratic form caught up with them again when they lost to Byfleet in their final game. There was nothing wrong with the Haslemere bowling as they dismissed the visitors for 131. Sam Williams recording particularly impressive figures of 10-2-12-3.
However, Justin Joseph and Matt Rannie, Byfleet’s opening bowlers, ran through Haslemere’s top order and they slumped to a sorry 37-7 before Chris May and Pete Dudley staged a stand of 34.
May was last man out for a fighting 40 and Haslemere were bowled out for 110, still 21 runs behind.
The victory did not save Byfleet from relegation.
• Haslemere 2nd XI (161-8) lost to Long Ditton II (184) in their final game.
