Farnham earned a losing draw against Old Rutlishians on Saturday.

Rain the night before meant the match was delayed, with 91 overs to be played in total.

Farnham won the toss and elected to field on what looked like a bowler-friendly pitch.

Three early wickets from Farnham seamer Adam Elstow left Old Rutlishians 25 for three. Some aggressive batting from Dan Wallis (38) and overseas player Will Martin (57), with contributions further down the order, enabled Old Rutlishians to post 203 for eight declared after 46 overs.

The remaining wickets were shared between Jake Henderson (three for 48)and James Berry (two for 49).

Farnham started aggressively with the bat with openers Nathan Thorpe and Guy Hicks. However, Thorpe was caught behind off seamer Carlton Anand to leave Farnham 22 for one. Further wickets from Sameer Khan (four for 20) left Farnham 58 for four as the heavens opened again.

With a significant delay and a number of further overs lost in the game, there remained only 12 overs left to bat.

Farnham went out aggressively to try to reach the winning draw target of 124. Hicks, who made a fine 40 off 42 balls, was caught behind off the bowling of Daniel Sharples, and the hosts batted out for the losing draw. Farnham finished on 89 for seven, with Russell Golding and Elstow calmly seeing off the final few overs.

Farnham will travel to Cheam on Saturday, in what looks like a must-win game at the bottom of the table.

Farnham’s president’s day will take place on Sunday at Farnham Park.

A women’s match will start at 10.30am, and will be followed by a men’s match at 1pm. All are welcome to attend throughout the day.
