FOUR centuries, including two in one game, were scored in the lower I’Anson divisions on Saturday, reflecting the entertaining cricket to be seen at this more modest level.

It’s serious stuff as well, with Grafham & Smithbrook, Wrecclesham and Kingsley likely to be locked in a tight battle to win promotion from Division Four.

Chiddingfold II and Frensham IV are leading the pack in Division Five, while Alton fourths are opening up a decent lead in Division Six.

Brook II have played only three games in Division Seven, but have won all of them. Churt III are also unbeaten in three games.

The new Tilford 3rd XI have lost only once in five games. Saturday’s side included seasoned clubmen Phil Knight, skipper Mark Bussell, Will Gear, Alistair and Alex Macdonald and Martin Knott. Who would bet against them moving up a division?

James Andrews scored 104 for a powerful Puttenham II side, but it was not enough to win the Division Four match against Grayswood II. The visitors totalled 246-5, but Grayswood (133-9) held out for a draw against a rather handy attack that included Tim Wickens and Aks Ilyas.

In Division Six, Ben Homewood cracked an unbeaten 119 for Headley III (248-9), but Will Bif saved the day for Shalford II (173-8) by batting throughout the innings for 107 not out

Guy Fenegan’s 120 not out included 22 boundaries and was his maiden century, enabling Kingsley II to amass 233-5. The Hindhead wicket was good for batting, though, and Churt III replied with 162-5 (Mike Marmion 51 not out). Match drawn.
