ENGLAND Physical Disability star Hugo Hammond cracked an unbeaten 122 – his maiden league century – as Alton II gave their SPL Division Three survival bid a significant boost.
An eight-wicket victory over troubled Hursley Park lifted Alton 16 points clear of bottom place and to within touching distance of Fair Oak.
Hammond led the way as Alton breezed past Hursley’s 221-4 with nine overs to spare.
Nick Turner hit an unbeaten 76 for Hursley Park after Paul Marks (43) and Lee Wateridge (40) had earlier added 66 for the third wicket.
Hammond and Andy Postles put on 50 for Alton’s first wicket and then young Tom Green and skipper Hammond took the game away from the visitors with a superb stand of 145.
After Green fell for a fine 47, Rob Heywood supported Hammond who led the Brewers home inside 42 overs. Three wins in a row for Alton twos in their fight for survival.
