IT was the turn of Grayshott 2nd XI to suffer at the hands of promotion-hunting Tongham in I’Anson Division Two.

Grayshott have again held their own in this tough division, but found themselves shot out for 60 in 25 overs on their own ground.

Skipper Luke McBain (23) and Richard Baker were going along nicely at one stage, but then Nick Cook and Ryan Bennett ripped into the batting. Cook took 4-26 in 12 overs and Bennett snapped up 4-13 in 5.3 as the middle and late order folded.

Liam Gadd then took the lead, hitting 41 not out as he and Adam Farrier finished the job in 25 overs, Tongham winning by 10 wickets.

Fernhurst, Tongham’s main title rivals, were made to work harder for victory by Witley. The hosts were invited to bat and openers Mark Charman and Mike Allen shared yet another century stand.

After Allen was dismissed for 52, batsmen came and went, Charman eventually departing for an elegant 80. Tristan Rissik added 25 before declaring at 223-8. This after a hat-trick by Charlie Hunt who was the pick of the Witley bowlers, taking 3-17 in six overs.

The Witley batsmen were never allowed to settle in reply. Mark White dug in, but was powerless as Leon Fourie dismantled the top order.

The turning-point in the match came when White was run out for 20, with both batsmen ending up at the same end.

Jimmy Hill took the attack to the bowlers with another explosive half- century, only to fall to the second ball bowled by young Joe Unwin.

Fourie finished with 5-33 in 14 overs, while Allen rolled back the years by taking a superb one-handed catch low down to his right.

Tilford II pulled further away from the danger area with an emphatic win over bottom side Badshot Lea. The ever-reliable Tim Gray scored a fine 57 for the home side, but that was out of a meagre total of 97. Rah Rocky was the only other batsmen to reach double figures as Johnny Barran wreaked havoc by taking 7-29 in 12.5 overs.

Gray took a quick wicket when Tilford replied, but Henry Bate was quickly into his stride and his unbeaten 67 saw the visitors to an early victory in the 19th over.

Elstead amassed 226-5 in 48 overs after being inserted by Frensham II. Max Holland (47) and Dave Tye shared a fine stand, the latter unlucky to miss his century after hitting 11 fours and four sixes in a forceful 94.

Frensham started well, Gary Allison leading the way with 49. Wickets started to tumble, with Lewis Sheppard claiming three, but John Turnbull came in at number 8 and his timely 50 not out saw Frensham to 216-7 in their 42 overs and eight points to Elstead’s six.
