Badshot Lea 3, Knaphill 3
A LATE goal forced in-form Badshot Lea to settle for a point in a six-goal thriller with Knaphill at their temporary Krooner Park home in Camberley on Saturday.
Lea, unbeaten in their last six games, looked to be heading for all three points which would have lifted them up to mid-table in the Premier Division of the Combined Counties League when Knaphill’s new signing Alexandru Albert found the net with just four minutes left.
It was tough on Lea who had twice come from behind in the first half thanks to a Conor Blanchard penalty and a Liam Roberts goal on the stroke of half-time before Jack May put them in front inside 60 seconds of the restart.
Blanchard’s 19th-minute penalty cancelled out Josh Barry’s third-minute opener for Knaphill while Roberts turned the ball in with the outside of his left foot to negate a goal from Knaphill’s Tom White just five minutes earlier as the teams went in at half-time level at 2-2.
May’s fine strike from outside the penalty area right at the start of the second half looked for a long time to be the match winner before Albert broke Lea hearts late on.
But the point capped a fine September for Badshot Lea, who won three and drew two of their five league games last month while progressing into the next round of both the FA Vase and Combined Counties Premier Challenge Cup.
On Saturday, Badshot Lea travel to face rock-bottom AFC Hayes in the Premier Division of the Combined Counties League (kick-off 3pm).
Badshot Lea: Clement, Pound (Allen 19), Brainch (Lloyd 46), Pilgrim, Flanighan, Blackie, J Francis, Thripp, Blanchard, May, Roberts. Subs (not used): Close, K Francis, Chase.
