Sandrock’s troops impress to lift Rudgwick Cup at Farnham Town
WRECCLESHAM’S ‘house of ale repute’, The Sandrock, beat Woking Vets 3-1 at Farnham Town to lift the Rudgwick Cup.
Sandrock’s well-thought-out strategy piled pressure on Woking’s back four from the first whistle.
Bunyan, Willliams and Yeates then ran the opposition down with pace and power.
Woking fought hard but were overcome by the sheer grit and determination of the skilful Sandrock side.
Coles was rarely troubled in the Sandrock goal despite Woking pressing forward and winning several corners.
Williams put the pub side ahead before Bunyan doubled the lead, slotting home a penalty given for handball.
But Woking weren’t done and pulled one back just before the break, Bazagalo running half the length of the pitch to beat Coles.
Chasing the game, Woking improved in the second half but Sandrock’s Pestle, Clark, Taylor and Ventham matched them all over the pitch.
Sandrock’s back three of Cooper, Roberts and Finney-Browning backed them up with some superb play.
Sandrock legs were tiring and subs Flory and Greenwood were thrown on to shore up the side.
Yeates – having given his all for the cause – was replaced late on by Savage before Williams made sure the cup came to Wrecclesham by hitting the third.
Celebrations went on through the afternoon at The Sandrock on Sandrock Hill.
