Frensham Pond Sailability celebrates its 21st anniversary this year.

From small beginnings organised by the Frensham Pond Sailing Club, it is now an important charitable organisation and one of the most successful Sailability clubs in the country.

Its aim is to enable people with disabilities to enjoy sailing – to learn to sail and build skills to enjoy it to the full.

To celebrate this milestone, the club organised a hog roast, provided by the Hog’s Breath. More than 100 people attended, including past and present sailors and volunteers with partners.

Also present were local councillors Malcolm Billings from Frensham and David Munro from Waverley, as well as representatives from the club’s funders, including Fleet Lions, Cranleigh Golf and Country Club, Farnham Lions and Hedgehogs. Entertainment was provided by Out of the Blue jazz band.

The occasion was an opportunity to make a presentation to Brian Grimwood MBE and his wife, Margaret.

Brian was one of the original founders of Sailability and has masterminded its growth and development to make it the fine club it is today.

Sailing for people with a disability was started by the Frensham Pond Sailing Club in 1982 with just one Wayfarer dinghy.

Frensham Pond Sailability was launched on September 22, 2001 by the Rt Hon Lord Wakeham. It has grown from strength to strength during the years to its 21st anniversary this year.
