COWDRAY Park Seniors’ February Stableford went ahead in bitterly cold weather.
Under the circumstances, some of the scoring was exceptional, notably the 45 points of the Division Two winner, 75-year-old Peter Clarke, who earned a three-shot handicap reduction.
It was the round of a lifetime for Clarke who, in his younger days, played cricket for Surrey and England Schoolboys and then later for powerful clubs Egham and Guildford.
William Hunter topped Division One with 40 points, ahead of low handicapper Dave Lucking on 39. Also returning 39, Peter Laws had a superb run on the front nine, during which he recorded a birdie and five pars in a row.
The Division Two runner-up was Wally Mitchell on 40 points and third-placed Brian Brockhurst recorded 37.
Leading scores: Div I – 40 William Hunter; 39 Dave Lucking, Peter Laws; 38 Dave Hirons, Terry Jasper, Robin Phillips; 37 Mick Colban.
Div II – 45 Peter Clarke; 40 Wally Mitchell; 37 Brian Brockhurst; 36 Richard Burden, Bernie May, Bruce Spooner.
Twos – John Newman (3rd); Rod Brown, Terry Jasper, Dave Lucking (9th); Brian Brockhurst, Barry Overington (11th).
Cowdray Ladies
EXCELLENT scores were achieved in Cowdray Park Ladies’ Bisque Par competition played in fine weather last week.
Bisque Par is a competition played against the course where players decide when they wish to use their shots as opposed to following the stroke index. This must be done after each hole and before teeing off on the next.
The winner with a superb score of +7 was Pat White.
Results: 1st, Pat White (+7); 2nd, Georgie Miller (+4); 3rd, Helen Chapman (+4); 4th, Sonia Burden (+3); 5th, Pauline Lamb (+3); 6th, Carolyn Scott (+3).
