ALAN Maskell and Trevor Gill, club captain and chairman respectively, were two members of the team that won the Worldham Golf Club Winter League Texas Scramble after five very competitive rounds.
They were joined by Nick and Di Kellie and the team discarded their worst score to total 241.3, just 0.7 strokes ahead of runners-up Lorna Paterson, Max Ford, Ken Baxter and James Connor. In third place, with a score of 242.6, were Pat Jones, Geoff Jones, Jim Jones and Jonathan Randall.
Worldham’s Pro-Captain Challenge was held on Sunday, with all-male teams taking on club professional Steve Cowle and Alan Maskell and mixed and ladies’ teams challenging lady captain Joanne Wilson and low handicapper Lorna Paterson in four-ball better-ball competitions.
The men’s pairs winners were Peter Smith and Ben Homewood with an amazing net 59, while Richard Oakey and Neil Searle scored 68, second on countback from the professional and captain.
The ladies’ pairs winners were Sue Dowson and Jane Macrae with a net 67 as against the 70 of Wilson and Paterson, while the mixed pairs winners were Lynne and Duncan Kenny with a net 67. Runners-up were Pat and Geoff Jones with a net 70.
