Two junior members of Headley Tennis Club have been crowned county winners in the LTA’s national Play your way to Wimbledon competition.

Daniel Micklefield, 16, from Alton and Toby Rowe, 14, from Whitehill were victors at Portsmouth Tennis Centre.

The pair played – and won – five tough matches in the under-18 junior doubles tournament to lift the county title.

Micklefield and Rowe will now move on to the regional south-east finals in Taunton on June 18.

The winners there will qualify for the national finals which will be played on the hallowed turf of the All-England Lawn Tennis Club at Wimbledon from August 7 to 13.

Micklefield and Rowe are coached and trained at Headley by club coach Liam Vacher and are two of the club’s most promising young talents.

The Play Your Way to Wimbledon competition, supported by Vodafone, gives players under the age of 18 an opportunity to compete for a title at Wimbledon. It is the largest individual mass participation tennis competition in the UK.
