TROJANS III 0, ALTON 3
ALTON made it ten victories out of ten matches in Hampshire 3 as they saw off promotion rivals Trojans III on Saturday.
The Eastleigh-based side were always going to put up a tough fight and it was some time before the visitors gained the upper hand.
Possession was equally shared in the opening stages as both defences were tested out.
Slowly, Alton built up the pressure and cracks opened in the home defence. James Goulding-Stewart and Tom Singleton missed chances before the visitors made the breakthrough, Nick Bagley-Reed finding himself well placed to deflect the ball into the bottom corner.
It remained 1-0 at the interval and Alton knew that the next goal would be crucial. Trojans defended several attacks staunchly, but the league leaders earned breathing space when a quick counter-attack allowed Martin Kercher to snap up the second goal.
The defiant Trojans continued to stretch the yellows at times and made a few chances themselves, but the Alton back line refused to give them anything.
Soon, Alton were back on the offensive and with Trojans running out of ideas, the visitors put the game to bed. Bagley-Reed scored his second of the game to make quite certain of the points.
Alton return to Amery Hill this Saturday for their last game before Christmas – a local derby against Aldershot & Farnham II.
