Petersfield Hockey Club’s women’s first team started the new year in fine form with an excellent win away at Hamble in dismal weather.

Dominant throughout, the first Petersfield goal came from Keyes midway through the first half.

More goals were not forthcoming during the first half, and Petersfield’s young defence were put to the test.

After the visitors had successfully defended four short corners, Hamble finally popped one over the line to make it 1-1 at half-time.

Petersfield came out for the second half reinvigorated and managed to produce many more attacks, with Keyes netting twice to complete her hat-trick.

Georgie Stratton-Brown was next to get her name on the scoresheet, taking a solo run up the right wing before delivering a strong strike from the top of the D.

The visitors continued attacking, maintained possession and kept the Hamble defence working.

The final goal came late in the game from Thomas, following some excellent work from the attackers. Despite the dismal weather, it was an excellent start to 2023 for the team.
