THE 34th Alton Downland Challenge takes place on Sunday, October 1, starting and finishing at Anstey Park.

Promoted by Alton Runners and Alton Lions, the Challenge comprises two trail races. The 5km run is open to anyone aged 10 and over, while the 10km race has a minimum age of 15.

Starting at 10.30am, the longer race takes runners over the Holybourne downs. The 5km race starts five minutes later and is mainly on hard tracks and footpaths around the Holybourne area.

All finishers will receive a medal, and there are trophies for winners of the various age categories in both races. There is a school team trophy in the 5km event.

Entry fees: £5 for 5km; £11 for 10km (£2 extra for entries on the day). The races can be entered online at www.activetrainingworld.co.uk

After last year’s success, there will also be a 500m race for 4-6 year olds and a 1km race for 7-9 year olds. Entry for these races, held between 9.45am and 10am, will be on the day only and there will be no charge. There will be medals for all finishers and other prizes.

This year’s races are being supported by Bottega Dei Sapori and Alton Sports. Profits from the day are distributed to local charities by Alton Lions.
