ALTON 9, WIMBORNE II 0

ALTON crushed Wimborne 9-0 at Amery Hill to consolidate their place at the top of Hampshire 3.

The home side dictated play from the word go and with barely five minutes gone, Martin Kercher got on the end of a great pass from Scott Reading to score the first goal.

Piling on the pressure and cutting out every Wimborne pass, the home team scored three more before half-time. James Goulding-Stewart tapped home at the post, Tom Singleton hammered home the third on the reverse, and Stuart Gagen netted his first of the game with a neat deflection from a short corner.

The Dorset side did manage to penetrate Alton territory in the second half, but were met by a stubborn defence, led by James Wilson.

Alton raised the tempo again and Gagen added the fifth goal. The home side then applied relentless pressure and Kercher, Singleton and Goulding-Stewart all added to their tallies.

With time running out and Alton leading 8-0, Kercher shrugged off his marker and finished calmly to complete his hat-trick with the ninth goal.

Skipper Nigel Downing almost made it double figures, but was denied by the post.

Alton III 4, Salisbury IV 1 (Hants 9). League leaders Alton surged into a 3-0 half-time lead with goals from Wilson Jnr and Jack Hawkes.

Salisbury were tougher nuts to crack in the second half and Alton were limited to one further goal.

Hamble IV 2, Alton IV 1 (Hants 10). Alton fourths lost a tough encounter, but remain a promising second in the league table after three games.
