NINE athletes from Haslemere Border took on the third and final leg of the Yateley 10k road race series.

As always with the races, all participants were well supported by spectators around the course, and some outstanding club performances were seen throughout the series.

Luke Shearring run under 36 minutes in all three races, with his fastest time in the second race of 34 minutes 58 seconds good enough for second place in the U40 category.

With all runners finishing in a sub one-hour time in the final race, some notable achievements came from Dave Bateman (47.22) and Steve King (57.15), both completing their fastest times in the last leg.

Elsewhere, the popular Hart 4 relay race, for teams of four on a four-kilomtre course, attracted 200 teams. With the race village set in the grounds of Minley Manor, Fleet, the two teams representing Haslemere Borders arrived early to set up camp for the duration of the four-hour race.

The two quartets took on the four-hour relay on the undulating course through the woodland and grasslands of Minley Manor, with each team’s objective to run as many laps as possible within the four-hour time limit.

Representing Haslemere Border in team ‘Herdy goes forth’ were Claire Green, Andy Wareham, Becca Humphries and John Dickinson.

They completed 11 laps, with an average lap speed of 22 minutes 21 seconds, with a fastest lap of 19.23 set by Andy Wareham as the team finished 87th in the mixed category.

In their inaugural Hart 4 relay, team ‘Dreamers’ were represented by Kate Elmer, Ann Varnes, Anne Kettles and Debbie Parry.

With all runners completing two laps each, the team completed eight laps in all and finished 29th in the female team category.

The fastest lap was completed by Kate Elmer in 25.15, with an average lap speed of 30.12 for the team.

With both teams enjoying the event, plans are already in place to return next year and hopes are high of completing more laps.
