ALDERSHOT Table Tennis League championship rivals Bentley A and Central A both won their Division One matches last week.
Bentley beat Ash A 7-3, thanks to a Richard Seymour maximum and a double from Graham Diplock, while Dave Halfpenny won two for Ash.
Central, meanwhile, squeezed past third-placed Tennis A 6-4 after another Phil Snelson treble and two wins for Paul Baker. Rod Kay claimed two for Tennis.
At the other end of the table, Frimley A now look safe after a convincing 8-2 victory over Ash B. Nigel Oh was unbeaten and team-mates Peter Farrelly and Ce Guo won two apiece, both losing to Ash’s Paul Rumble.
Fleet A continue to look over their shoulders and were not helped by a crushing 9-1 defeat to Central B. Andy Appleby, Martin Townshend and Ramesh Bhalla won all the singles for Central.
Division Two will be contested right to the end of the season. Frimley B are currently top after 7-3 victories against Cody B and Tennis E. Bob Walker was unbeaten in the Cody match, backed up by David MacKinnon’s brace. Paul Mission won twice for Cody. Against Tennis, Clive Welsman claimed a full house for Frimley and MacKinnon again won twice. Peter Bone took two for Tennis.
Cody B bounced back by whitewashing Tennis F 10-0, with Mission, Dave Stenning and Duncan Sibbick plundering the points.
Frimley C eased their relegation concerns with a 7-3 win over Braybrooke A. Frimley players Gary Nicholson, Vasco Correira and Anthony Connelly all won twice, as did Mark Armstrong for Braybrooke.
The promotion issues have been settled in the lower division. In Division Three, Tennis G beat their F team 7-3 to clinch promotion. Peter Bone chalked up a maximum and Martin Evans and Mehrdad Abutalebi both won twice.
Also going up are Crawley Ridge B who beat Fleet B 8-2. Phil Garrett won all three for Crawley, supported by doubles from Richard Hornby and Steve Bridle. Both lost to Rob Brook of Fleet. Fleet B are destined to finish in the bottom two.
Frimley D and Ash D shared the points. Jo Bartlett claimed a hat-trick for Ash and Barry Baxter and Ramesh Vasudevamurthy both won two for Frimley.
Ash E defeated Cody C 6-4, with Les Knight’s treble making the difference. John Harvey and Nigel Roberts won two apiece for Cody.
Frimley F and Crawley Ridge C will be going up from Division Four. Crawley beat Cody E 8-2, with Richard Hornby unbeaten on the night. Mark Stephenson and Yuiry Schulzhenko took two apiece, both losing to Cody’s Dave Hewitt.
Ted Cornell and Steve Lawlor were unbeaten as Frimley clinched promotion with a 7-3 win over Tennis H.
Fleet C beat Frimley E 6-4, thanks to an Alan Yeung maximum. Charles Rhodes and Steve Chapman scored doubles for Frimley.
Hat-tricks for Mick Rumbold and Kenny Duarte saw Braybrooke B to an 8-2 victory over Tennis H. Ken Lewington was unbeaten and Keith Johnson won twice for Tennis J in their 7-3 win over Cody F. Norrie Short won two for the losers.
