A PETITION with more than 4,000 signatures signed by people against pay-and-display parking charges in Haslemere is due to be handed over tomorrow.

It will be presented to the local committee of Surrey County Council, which meets at Godalming, although parking is not on the agenda – the crucial meeting is on Friday, March 16, when the local committee will decide on the controversial proposals at Chichester Hall, Witley.

The action group against the proposals, including Haslemere Chamber of Trade, is also due to meet with committee chairman Pat Frost, at a private session at Godalming on March 6.

It follows a letter pleading with county council leader David Hodge to intervene, which was sent to his home address by action group members Nikki and Jeremy Barton.

Mrs Frost said the purpose of the meeting was to listen to a representative of each the groups who had contacted her.
