Looking back on 2025: Progress begins to take shape in Whitehill & BordonAmelia Fogg, who attends Anstey Junior School, raised more than £1,000 for St Michael’s Hospice in Basingstoke, where her granddad Steve Fogg died in January, when she achieved the feat alongside her mum and dad Michelle and Chris Fogg on September 11.
Michelle said: “Amelia asked to do something to raise some money so all other children would be able to see their grandparents or parents for one last time in this very special place. Her caring side took over and we came up with the ascent of Snowdon.
“We took the Snowdon Ranger path and did it in five hours 18 minutes. She was a little celebrity up there as no-one had seen an eight-year-old at the top before – they were all congratulating her.
“Her determination and resilience is absolutely amazing. We are incredibly proud parents and still in shock that she achieved such a massive thing to do at her age. We were going to get the train down but it wasn’t running at that time of the morning so she came down as well.
“It was very rocky in places – she had to watch every step she took – and it was very steep in other places. We stopped a couple of times to refuel with sugar sweets and then she carried on, smiling all the way – well, most of it anyway!”
