THREE Haslemere working mums are skiing the Arctic Marathon next February for breast cancer charity Walk the Walk.
Now nicknamed ‘The Three Arctic Monkeys’, Sally Barr, Arabella Burwood and Seraphina Berry will be heading off to the Abisko National Park in north Sweden to undertake the 26-miles challenge in temperatures of minus-30 degrees Centigrade, and are now in training to build up their upper body strength to be able to go the distance in an estimated 16 hours, carrying all their belongings and equipment.
The trio are organising a style event at Haslewey Community Centre in Wey Hill, on Friday, September 8, (7-10pm) to cover some of the costs of the trip.
Sally said: “The evening will include a presentation by a professional image consultant and stylist, and makeup tips, tricks and demonstrations by local experts,”
“There will also be free makeovers and consultations, reflexology taster sessions and a number of local businesses will be supporting the event by showcasing their products and services.”
Walk the Walk has made grants for research to Breakthrough Breast Cancer and Breast Cancer Campaign for its ground-breaking Breast Cancer Tissue Bank.
The two charities recently merged to form Breast Cancer Now and funding from Walk the Walk has made possible Breast Cancer Now’s legacy study for secondary breast cancer. Walk the Walk is also committed to providing funding to hospitals across the UK to purchase scalp cooling systems to help patients undergoing chemotherapy retain their hair.
Tickets for the fundraiser cost £10 including a glass of Prosecco and are available from Haslewey or by emailing: sal_barr @yahoo.co.uk
