AN 88 year old care home resident donned her leather jacket and ticked a dream off her bucket list last week when she had the opportunity to ride a Harley Davidson.

Barbara Poingdestre currently resides at Huntington House, a nursing home in Hindhead.

Despite living with Parkinsons, she “expressed her desire to ride one of the iconic vehicles and fulfil a lifelong ambition”.

Staff at Huntington House sought to make Barbara’s wish come true, and on Wednesday, September 11 her dream became a reality.

The “self-confessed tomboy” was met by 25 bikers from the Widows Sons Masonic Bikers Association (WSMBA) and Hogsback Chapter UK at the home.

Stephen Mulvaney, WSMBA member, then took Barbara for a drive around the Huntington Estate on the back of a Harley Davidson trike, adding that she was “smiling from ear to ear”.

He said: “At the end, she had tears of joy and couldn’t thank us enough.

“We didn’t do anything, we just turned up and took her for a ride.

“Being in this stage of life shouldn’t preclude you from enjoying life. If we can help Barbara to ‘live’, then that’s what’s important.”

On her ride, Barbara said: “I loved it. We went very fast, but I would’ve liked to have gone faster! I didn’t want to get off!”
