Sir – In my position as chairman of Wey Hill In Bloom, I would like to bring to the attention of your readers the floral display that we intend to introduce to Wey Hill and Junction Place this summer.

As part of the drive towards the regeneration of Wey Hill and Junction Place, a group of volunteers which include local shopkeepers, residents and councillors, have come together to examine what can be done to improve the overall visual impact of the area. After consultation with people both working and living in the area, the project team has been busy fund raising and we are now in a position to announce our plans.

Our intention is to work for the long term and we intend to build upon achievements each and every year.

For this summer, as well as planting out the existing 15 barrel planters in the area, we will be providing and planting out an additional 11 large planters at various strategic points throughout Wey Hill and Junction Place. In order to maximise the floral impact, these new planters are being built to a size up to five foot by three foot.

At the end of the summer display, all planters will then be planted out with an ongoing winter and spring display.

With the provision of all the planters, comes the ongoing task of maintaining and watering etc and I am pleased to say that we have the full support of local businesses and shopkeepers in helping us with this task. In addition and in order to involve the whole community in this project, we are looking towards local youth organisations to work with us by adopting and maintaining a number of the planters.

Our current plans are that we will deliver, place and fill the new planters with top soil on Saturday May 2. This will also involve moving a number of the existing planters to new positions. All planters will then be planted out on Saturday, May 16. If anyone in the local community would like to help us with either of these activities, they will be made more than welcome. Please feel free to contact me if you would like any further details.
