FRIENDS and family of Jaz Bush turned out in force on Sunday, September 29 – despite the rain – and raised just under £5,000 at the third football fundraiser held in loving memory of the former Woolmer Hill student.

The 16-year-old was battling depression when she died in 2017 after being struck by a train at Haslemere Railway Station.

Proceeds from the annual event go to the National Autistic Society (NAS) Surrey Branch and Young Minds and they have now raised more than £27,000. Mixed football teams on the day included Jaz’s old team mates, who played against The Young Ones, but lost 3-1.

Jaz’s father Ian and her brothers Josh and Jordan played in the BC Construction team, which made it through to the final against the Shottermill team in the men’s matches and won the contest 1-0, thanks to the winning goal scored by Ryan Knight.

Jaz’s mother Nicky said: “Ben Susans, Carl Thayre, Adam Bicknell and Lisa Hatchell organised another fantastic day.

“The response has been amazing and will continue to make a difference to young people and their families.

“Despite the weather, we managed to clear the burger wagon and most of the drink from the bar.

“Live music was provided by St Paulo band member Eloise Carter, Megan Vardy and Molly Griffiths, followed on by a disco.

“We would like to say a special thank you to all the companies and individuals donating raffle prizes that enabled us to make this happen.

“Sara Truman from the NAS (Surrey branch) came down, Molly Moocow provided entertainment and Rosie Miron gave massages to the players plus all her proceeds to the event.

“We cannot thank everybody enough who has helped to make this event happen.”
