PROTESTORS were ejected and a meeting nearly came to a halt last Friday before campaigners won their battle to stop parking charges being introduced in Haslemere.

News that reisdents will not have pay and display parking meters in retail areas was greeted by cheers by townsfolk who had turned out in force at the committee meeting last week.

But their joy soon turned sour when plans for many parking bays and double yellow lines were voted through.
